THE NEO AFRO DJ
“Merchant of deep, infectious and rhythmic African grooves with a feel-good factor.”
That’s how Kenyan DJ Ally Fresh describes himself. A neo-afro deejay on an adventure to explore the African sound landscape and chart the continent’s musical multiculturalism and diversity.
You could say he is like a sound cartographer who maps paths for those who are seeking to discover the authentic tunes of the motherland.
His passion to showcase Africa as being the new frontier for the arts is conspicuous from his sense of style, choice of music and the spirit of Harambee and Ubuntu, where he enjoys collaborating with other creatives to put out good content. You can see it through the energy he exerts in his sets and live performances. They are almost always a kinetic affair.
From those Afrocentric jams that get you tapping your feet, nodding your head and without realizing it, the mystic ones that get you to theatrically dance, you can rest assured of a thrilling celebration. His unique ability to blend and weave through various genres, tempos or styles and still maintain a common theme makes him the perfect addition to any club, party, concert or festival.
Definitely not one of your usual DJ suspects, Ally Fresh is a polymath. He couples as a graphic designer and a prolific software engineer. When he is not performing on the 1’s and 2’s you can find him immersed in the world of 1’s and 0’s developing tech solutions. True to his mission, Ally Fresh has gone out his way to find remedies to an aching Kenyan entertainment industry on the strength of this tech knowledge.
This polymath of a whiz kid is not only limited to spinning tunes produced by other artists, he is also a producer and composer in his own right.
In 2021, DJ Ally Fresh co-founded Freshly Baked Records, a record label based in Nairobi, Kenya that focuses on content creation, content strategy, content promotion and distribution for DJs, producers and artists in Africa. The label is proud to have DJ Ally Fresh as its first signing.
He is currently working on an EP set to release in 2024 with DJ Mura who is a phenomenal music producer from Kenya’s group Bengatronics. Through incorporating all the influences Kenyan music has embraced, these two have set their sights on reimagining the Kenyan sound by cultural evolution.
The goal of the EP will be to highlight the different aspects of growing up as an African youth. One of the singles off the EP, Hutia is an amazing love story in collaboration with Ayrosh.
